Pear Deck is a simple presentation tool designed to enhance student learning during a slideshow. Ideally, each student in the class should have their own device, and the fact that Pear Deck works on all platforms makes it a great fit for a 1:1 setting. Students use their devices to follow along with the teacher's slideshow on a classroom screen. Throughout, teachers can pause at points where they've added questions -- a variety of question types are available. Teachers can view students' responses to these questions immediately, as well as post the results on-screen for all students to see. On the setup side of things, teachers will need to take some time preparing presentations and adding the interactive elements that make the platform engaging. Pear Deck has made this process somewhat easier for teachers -- there's a built-in Google search tool to use when adding images and videos into slides. What's more, Pear Deck will helpfully cite any images inserted using this tool!
Capzles is a social-networking and storytelling website. Users can combine photos, videos, blog content, and music into explanatory slideshows and share them with friends or the general public. To create their own Capzles, users register by entering an e-mail address, a username, and a password. Then, the intuitive slideshow-creation tool walks you through adding a title, text, images, backgrounds, and other items step by step. Capzles are public by default unless users alter the settings. With Biteslide, students can create digital slideshows using text, photos, and video clips. Once teachers create their own accounts, they can add students and assign projects. Teachers can make a "slidebook" (slideshow) template for students to copy and customize, or provide general instructions and give students free reign. Kids then sign in with a unique username and password and create their slidebooks. Kids can search for images or video on Google or YouTube from their classroom computers -- a custom search tool is embedded in the slidebook creation screen. Kids can also customize the design of their slides, as well as add "editors" to allow for collaboration with other kids. Finished slidebooks can be downloaded or printed, and kids can mark their slidebooks "ready for review." A limited number of student accounts and projects, and unlimited slidebooks, are available with a free teacher account. Other paid subscription levels offer more options. Storybird is an online social platform for storytelling. Kids act as authors, pairing their words with site-curated, licensed art. Kids can compose text, but they can't upload their own art; they must use Storybird's curated collection in their picture books. Teachers can create classes and provide students with their credentials to use the site. This is a great way for teachers to tell a story related to content in class or have students create a story project. PowToon gives users tools to create animated and slideshow presentations. Anyone can sign up for free with an email address. Once signed in, users can design presentations using ready-made templates or start from scratch. Both options allow unlimited customization by adding text, images, simple animations, enter and exit effects, and more. Images are organized by styles; for example, the marker style offers visuals that seem as though they're whimsically drawn with a marker. (Free, classroom, and premium accounts unlock different numbers of styles.) When finished, upload the presentation to YouTube and send it to the teacher account for review, or keep it in your personal PowToon dashboard. This is a way to spice up a flipped classroom or have students create a different type of project to share content knowledge. The site is very intuitive but will take some practice, especially when first doing one of these with students. Nearpod is a site and app that is used to create and deliver interactive presentations and assessments. On the site, teachers can create their own multimedia presentations or customize ones that are made public. A variety of things can be built into the presentations including videos, images, slideshows, polls, draw its(students directly write on the slide and submit), and open ended questions. Teachers control what screen the students see and can also share a student submission with each device. This is a very powerful tool but is limited in space for free accounts. Students get to the presentations by going to the site and submitting the class code or by launching the nearpod app on their device if they have it. Kizoa is a site that is used to create videos, slideshows, collages, and also to edit photos from the convenience of a single platform with your own acount. It is free to make an account but there are some limitations for what you can do with a free account. There are dozens of templates and customizable options for creating your materials though. Photos and videos can be combined with text, music, and effects. The paid account gives you the ability to burn high definition videos and customize how your show or video is embedded on another site. Haiku Deck is a tool that is used to create presentations. Teachers and students can choose from pre-loaded themes, millions of Creative Commons stock photographs, personal images, charts, graphs, and colors, and then add text to present information slide by slide. It is possible for students to find some inappropriate images depending on what they are searching for, so teachers must be mindful or limit students to use only personal images. This is a great tool that can be used to create eye-catching presentations when used properly. These presentations can be shared publicly or privately. GoAnimate is a cloud-based platform for creating and distributing animated videos. It allows users to develop both narrative videos, in which characters speak with lip-sync and move around, and video presentations, in which a voice-over narrator speaks over images and props, which may also move around. GoAnimate provides users with drag-and-drop tools that the company's website indicates can be used to access thousands of character models, backdrops, and other assets to create scenario-based videos - like political videos depicted during the 2012 presidential campaign. The platform offers text-to-speech character voices with customizable environments. Prezi is a site that is used to create online presentations. It uses a picture as its main canvas. Each slide is a part of the overall picture that is zoomed into. There are many different designs available. Users can add audio, video, and pictures to their presentations. Emaze is a free site that is used to create modern presentations online. There are a variety of themes and templates for different slides and presentations.
